All athletes know the importance of weight, lean body mass, power:weight ratio’s etc.... and a big factor for me this whole year has been to try and drop some (a lot of!) weight in order to get myself through these tough hilly events, I have been losing and gaining the same 5 pounds all year, life just seems to keep getting in the way. You know, weekends on the piss, parties, weddings, cakes and biscuits in the office, too many beers at the pub on a Friday night all the usual lazy arse excuses I slate people for using.
The last couple of months I’ve still be going round and round in circles, I’d try to cut back on intake, then find myself bonking on the way to work on my morning commute, having to buy empty caloried Haribo to pick myself up or gorging on shit to give me some energy... all these little extras really not helping either my efforts of weight loss or good quality training. I’m not stupid though, I’ve read loads on nutrition but until someone tells you exactly where you’re going wrong it’s hard to know how to improve.
I know a lovely if not mad as a box of frogs lady (but this is what we love most about her – oh and her amazing legs!) called Sally Pinnegar who is a nutritionist and coach who runs a successful company “fit naturally” who has given me lots of help tweaking my diet, first to go was the “Horriblo” as she calls them, and the skinny girl meals . On the first two weeks of the “Pinnegar Plan” I felt heaps better, no more bonking, bags of energy (even at the end of a long day) and I could even be arsed to get out training in the evening without having to force myself out. The first time trial of the season (although very late) I knocked a minute of my personal best, then the following week almost another minute. If you don’t believe me check out some of the other feedback from her website.....
My recovery was also heaps better, amazing what refuelling after training can do for your muscles eh!?
OK so I’ve got a long way to go and although I’ve left it a bit late in the day for mountain goat-esque antics in TransWales, the results are pretty significant if only I can keep at it I might even squeeze back into my skinny jeans sometime this year!
So there is much truth in what they say – put shit in, get shit out and as Sal said “Ya can’t run a Bugatti Veyron on fresh air n Horriblos”
Hello Anna-fanz, listen, bonking is good, I fully condone it as much as possible. If you are ruggedy, outdoorsy, big ol hands, love ridin' bikes and are really really phwoarr and don't like Horriblos please get in touch so I can screen you for inclusion in Anna's programme. Fangs alot xxx
ReplyDelete(Anna was that OK?)
